Vivek Vihar fire: Delhi CM Rekha Gupta visits site, meets families of 9 victims
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday, 5 May visited the site of the deadly fire in Vivek Vihar, New Delhi, meeting with survivors and bereaved families of the nine people — including a toddler — who lost their lives in the blaze. The Chief Minister assured affected families of full support from the Delhi government as the administration continued relief and rescue operations.
What Happened at Vivek Vihar
A massive fire broke out on the second floor of a four-storey residential building in Vivek Vihar at around 4 AM on Sunday. A total of 14 fire engines were rushed to the spot, and the blaze was brought under control by approximately 6 AM. Around 15 people were evacuated from the building during rescue operations.
While some survivors sustained minor injuries and were shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment, nine people, including a toddler, lost their lives. A preliminary enquiry has confirmed the death toll, and further investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
