Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan will undertake his first official visit to the Union Territory of Ladakh from Friday to Sunday, culminating in his participation at the International Day of Yoga celebrations in Leh on 21 June, according to an official statement issued on Thursday, 18 June.
Itinerary and Key Stops
On 20 June, Radhakrishnan will visit the Vibrant Village of Lukung, a border settlement covered under the Centre's Vibrant Villages Programme. There, he will interact with local Self-Help Groups and review developmental initiatives being carried out in the frontier region. Later that day, he will pay his respects at the War Memorial in Leh.
Yoga Day Celebrations in Leh
On 21 June, the Vice-President will join the International Day of Yoga event in Leh, which is expected to draw participation from youth, armed forces personnel, and members of various organisations. The event is aimed at promoting the message of holistic health and well-being through yoga, officials said.
Drug-Free Campus Campaign Push
Separately, Radhakrishnan has called upon universities and educational institutions across the country to join the Drug-Free Campus Campaign he launched last year. In a post on X, the Vice-President said, 'I had launched the Drug-Free Campus Campaign and the e-pledge platform at the University of Delhi earlier this year as its Chancellor, urging students to become ambassadors of a Nasha Mukt Bharat and take a stand against the menace of drug abuse.'
He noted that over 53,000 students at the University of Delhi have already taken the mandatory pledge under the Nasha Mukt Parisar Abhiyaan. 'Through a collective effort, over 53,000 students have taken the mandatory pledge, contributing to the vision of fostering a healthier, stronger, and more prosperous nation,' he said.
Call to Action for Universities
Radhakrishnan urged other institutions to follow suit, stating, 'I urge other universities to also join hands in this endeavour and motivate their students to participate in this campaign to realise the goal of Drug-Free India.' He emphasised that collective action and sustained awareness among youth are essential to achieving the vision of a Drug-Free India.
The Ladakh visit marks a significant moment for the border territory, which continues to receive heightened attention from the Centre through programmes like the Vibrant Villages initiative. All eyes will be on the Leh Yoga Day event as a symbol of both national wellness outreach and the government's continued engagement with frontier communities.
