Agartala, March 7 (NationPress) Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan made his way to Agartala on Saturday as part of his inaugural visit to three northeastern states: Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura. He is set to deliver a keynote address at the 14th convocation of Tripura University on Sunday.
Following his participation in the 20th convocation ceremony at Mizoram University in Aizawl, the Vice-President arrived in the state capital on Saturday afternoon for the first time since taking office.
Upon landing at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, he received a warm welcome from Tripura Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, State BJP President and Rajya Sabha member Rajib Bhattacharjee, along with State Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha and Director General of Police Anurag.
Vice-President Radhakrishnan was also presented with a ceremonial guard of honour at Lok Bhavan, located on the outskirts of the city.
During his time in Agartala, prior to his convocation speech on Sunday, he is scheduled to interact with several 'Lakhpati Didis' and members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) at the International Trade and Fair Centre, situated on the city's outskirts.
Additionally, he will pay homage to the martyred soldiers at the Albert Ekka Memorial Park.
Security measures have been extensively arranged by the police for the Vice-President's visit to Tripura.
A university official stated that the convocation ceremony had been postponed for the last two years—2024 and 2025.
Certificates, degrees, gold medals, and PhD degrees will be awarded to deserving students during the ceremony.
In total, 283 students from various departments will receive gold medals, while 149 research scholars are set to be awarded PhD degrees.
Vice-President Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the ceremony at the university campus in Suryamaninagar, located on the outskirts of Agartala.
Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, and the university's Chancellor Ahmad Javed will also address the audience.
Established in October 1987, Tripura University was elevated to a Central University on July 2, 2007, under the Tripura University Act, 2006, enacted by Parliament.
Currently, 64 colleges are affiliated with the university.
On this trip to the three northeastern states, the Vice-President had addressed the eighth convocation ceremony of Nagaland University in Kohima on Friday.
