Aizawl/Agartala, March 1 (NationPress) The Vice-President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, is set to serve as the chief guest for the convocations of two prominent central universities: Mizoram University and Tripura University, scheduled for March 7 and 8, as confirmed by officials on Sunday.
On March 7, he will deliver a speech at the 20th Mizoram University Convocation. The following day, on March 8, he will participate in and address the 14th Convocation of Tripura University.
In Aizawl, Mizoram's Chief Secretary, Khilli Ram Meena, led a preparatory meeting to assess the arrangements for the Vice-President’s upcoming visit.
During this meeting, representatives from various departments outlined their responsibilities and coordinated efforts to facilitate the seamless execution of the event. Important logistical and protocol-related issues regarding the reception and overall agenda were also discussed.
The Vice-President will inaugurate the convocation ceremony at Tripura University in Suryamaninagar, located on the outskirts of the state capital, Agartala, on March 8.
Notably, the convocation ceremony has not taken place for the past two years, in 2024 and 2025. During the event, eligible students will be awarded certificates, degrees, gold medals, and PhD degrees. A total of 283 students across various departments will receive gold medals, while 149 research scholars will be conferred with PhD degrees.
Alongside the Vice-President, Tripura's Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, and University Chancellor Ahmad Javed will also address the audience.
Previously, the university's Acting Vice-Chancellor Shaymal Das and Acting Registrar Samir Kumar Shill met with the Governor at Raj Bhavan to discuss various aspects of the convocation arrangements.
Established in October 1987, Tripura University was designated as a Central University on July 2, 2007, under the Tripura University Act, 2006, passed by Parliament. Currently, the university is affiliated with 64 colleges.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Union Ministry of Education is striving to complete the selection process for a new Vice-Chancellor as soon as possible.
