Aizawl, March 6 (NationPress) The Vice-President (V-P) C.P. Radhakrishnan is set to speak at the 20th convocation of Mizoram University on Saturday, as confirmed by officials on Friday.
Following his address at the eighth convocation ceremony of Nagaland University in Kohima, Vice-President Radhakrishnan arrived in the capital of Mizoram, Aizawl, on Friday afternoon. This marks his first visit to the state since taking office.
On Saturday, he will serve as the chief guest at the 20th Convocation of Mizoram University, which is a central university.
Upon his arrival at Lengpui Airport, Vice-President Radhakrishnan received a warm welcome from Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.), along with School Education Minister Vanlalthlana and other senior officials.
He was also honored with a ceremonial guard of honor.
Upon reaching Lok Bhavan, the Vice-President was greeted with a ceremonial reception by the Governor, Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Home Minister K. Sapdanga, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister C. Lalsawivunga, and other dignitaries.
On Friday evening, the Mizoram government organized a special cultural event followed by a dinner in honor of the Vice-President at Lok Bhavan.
After the convocation at Mizoram University on Saturday, Vice-President Radhakrishnan will proceed to Tripura to attend the 14th convocation of Tripura University as the chief guest.
In Agartala, he will also meet various 'Lakhpati Didis' and members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) at the International Trade and Fair Centre in Hapania, located on the outskirts of the city.
Additionally, he will pay homage at the Albert Ekka Memorial Park at Lichubagan.
Law enforcement officials have implemented comprehensive security measures for the Vice-President's visit to Tripura.
A representative from Tripura University stated that the convocation ceremony has not been conducted for the past two years, specifically in 2024 and 2025.
During this ceremony, certificates, degrees, gold medals, and PhD degrees will be awarded to qualified students.
In total, 283 students from diverse departments will receive gold medals, while 149 research scholars are set to be honored with PhD degrees at the upcoming convocation.
Vice-President Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the ceremony at the university campus in Suryamaninagar, situated on the outskirts of Agartala.
Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, and university Chancellor Ahmad Javed will also deliver addresses to the attendees.
Tripura University was established in October 1987 and was upgraded to a Central University on July 2, 2007, under the Tripura University Act, 2006, enacted by Parliament.
Currently, 64 colleges are affiliated with the university.
