Srinagar, February 25 (NationPress) - Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan has arrived in Jammu and Kashmir for a two-day official visit. He landed at Srinagar Airport on Wednesday evening aboard a Business Boeing Jet.
Upon arrival, he was welcomed by Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, the General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps, and the Director General of Police of J&K.
Following his reception, the Vice President was escorted in a secured convoy to the Raj Bhawan located in the Chashma Shahi area of Srinagar, where he will be residing during his visit.
This marks Vice President Radhakrishnan's inaugural visit to Jammu and Kashmir since taking office.
On Thursday, he is set to serve as the chief guest at the 21st convocation of the University of Kashmir, which will take place at its Hazratbal campus.
During this event, the Lt Governor will act as Chancellor, while the Chief Minister will serve as Pro-Chancellor of the university.
In anticipation of the Vice President's visit, security measures have been heightened, with forces conducting route sanitization and dry runs along his designated travel paths in Srinagar.
Temporary checkpoints have been established at various locations, and vehicle inspections and passenger checks have been intensified to guarantee safety during this VVIP visit.
The Traffic Department has released a comprehensive advisory, urging commuters to adhere to alternative routes to facilitate the smooth transit of the Vice President's convoy.
As per the advisory, access for motorists towards Nishat, Shalimar, Harwan, and surrounding areas via Badyari Chowk and Gupkar will be restricted on Thursday.
Additionally, traffic from Ram Munshibagh towards Hotel Grand Palace will be suspended, with vehicles redirected towards Dalgate, Sangermal, and Ikhwan Chowk for continued travel.
Authorities have indicated that traffic will be limited on the stretches of roads including Dalgate, Khayam, Khaynar, Rainawari, Saidkadal, and Hazratbal for the duration of this period.
Motorists traveling from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat, Ganderbal, and surrounding areas towards Lal Chowk are advised to take the Burzahama route via Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakoora, Malbagh, Illahibagh, and 90 Feet Road, and vice versa.
Similarly, those commuting from Dalgate, Lal Chowk, and nearby areas towards Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat should utilize the Sangermal, Ikhwan Chowk, Nowhatta, 90 Feet Road, and Malbagh route.
Travelers heading to Srinagar Airport from Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat will be allowed to proceed via Burzahama, Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakoora, Malbagh, Illahibagh, and 90 Feet Road.
Vehicles making their way from Panthachowk and Pandrethan towards Ram Munshibagh will be permitted via Peaks Motors Nowgam and the Bypass.
Officials have stated that medical emergencies will be accommodated after proper verification, and citizens in need of assistance may reach out to the Traffic Police.
