Srinagar, Feb 25 (NationPress) The Vice President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, is set to arrive in the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday evening for his inaugural two-day visit. Upon arrival at Srinagar Airport, he will make his way to Lok Bhawan located in the Chashma Shahi area, where he will stay overnight.
He will be welcomed by J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah upon his arrival.
On Thursday, he will serve as the chief guest at the 21st convocation ceremony of the University of Kashmir, which will take place at the Hazratbal campus. The Lt Governor holds the position of Chancellor, while the Chief Minister is the Pro-Chancellor of this esteemed university.
In preparation for the Vice President's visit, security measures have been significantly enhanced. Security personnel conducted a thorough dry run along the entire route that the Vice President is expected to travel during his stay in Srinagar.
Temporary check posts have been established at various locations, and vehicle inspections, along with passenger frisking, have commenced to guarantee maximum security for the visiting dignitary.
The traffic department has released a detailed advisory urging the public to adhere to the designated alternate routes to facilitate the smooth passage of the Vice President's convoy during the visit.
As per the advisory, vehicles will not be permitted to proceed towards Nishat, Shalimar, Harwan, and surrounding areas through Badyari Chowk and Gupkar on Thursday. Additionally, traffic from Ram Munshibagh heading to Hotel Grand Palace will be halted, with diversions towards Dalgate, Sangermal, and Ikhwan Chowk implemented for further movement.
During the restriction period, no traffic will be allowed on the Dalgate, Khayam, Khanyar, Rainawari, Saidkadal, and Hazratbal road segments. Those traveling from Harwan, Shalimar, Nishat, Ganderbal, and nearby regions towards Lal Chowk are advised to utilize the Burzahama route via Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakoora, Malbagh, Illahibagh, and 90 Feet Road and vice versa.
Motorists intending to travel from Dalgate, Lal Chowk, and adjacent areas toward Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat have been instructed to follow the Sangermal, Ikhwan Chowk, Nowhatta, 90 Feet, and Malbagh route to reach their destinations.
For those heading to Srinagar Airport from Harwan, Shalimar, and Nishat, they will be allowed to proceed through Burzahama, Chandpora, Tailbal, Zakoora, Malbagh, Illahibagh, and 90 Feet Road. Vehicles traveling from Panthachowk and Pandrethan towards R M Bagh will be permitted via Peaks Motors Nowgam and the Bypass. Authorities confirmed that medical emergencies will be accommodated after proper verification.
Citizens in need of assistance can reach out to the Traffic Police Control Room at 103.
In the meantime, V.K. Virdi, the Inspector General of Police (Kashmir), convened a comprehensive security review meeting regarding the VVIP visit.
This marks C.P. Radhakrishnan's first visit to the Union Territory as the Vice President of India.
