Wayanad Incident: Tourists Drag Tribal Individual on Car Bonnet, Demands for Firm Action by Priyanka Gandhi

Wayanad, Dec 16 (NationPress) In a regrettable event, tourists in Kerala’s Wayanad dragged a tribal individual on the bonnet of their car following a verbal confrontation between two groups. Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi has called for firm action against the individuals involved.
The victim, Mathan, was merely an onlooker when the two tourist factions at the check dam site in Koodal Kadavu began arguing. Upon questioning the misbehavior, Mathan found himself targeted by one of the groups.
Mathan, a resident of Mananthavady in the hilly region of Wayanad, was dragged for approximately 500 meters along the roadway by the tourists.
Footage from CCTV has circulated widely on social media, showcasing the brutal manner in which Mathan (49) was pulled along the street.
Later, speaking to reporters from the hospital, Mathan revealed that he sustained injuries to his hands and legs. “One of the people in the car was grasping my hand while I was on the bonnet,” he recounted.
The police have initiated a case and confiscated the vehicle involved in the incident. However, as of now, no arrests have been made.
In the meantime, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi emphasized that the authorities must guarantee that strict action is applied to the offenders.
“The Kerala government must ensure that justice is expedited in this case and that severe action is taken against the culprits,” stated the Wayanad MP.
O R Kelu, the Kerala Minister for SC, ST & BC, who is also a tribal individual from Wayanad, remarked that this is a very serious matter and assured that the authorities will act promptly.
He also mentioned that the victim would receive all necessary medical care.
Former State Minister for SC/ST and current Lok Sabha member K. Radhakrishnan expressed that such incidents are uncommon in Kerala.
“We cannot allow those with wealth to evade justice; the law must prevail,” asserted Radhakrishnan.
Wayanad MLA T. Siddique highlighted that this reflects the unfortunate treatment of tribals in Kerala under the current government. “This is unacceptable, and action will be taken against those responsible,” Siddique stated.
Well-known tribal leader C.K Janu described the incident as a serious issue, expressing sorrow over the treatment of a fellow human being.
“The tourists appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The offenders should be imprisoned as soon as possible,” said Janu.
Meanwhile, the police have identified the individuals responsible and are anticipated to make arrests soon.
