Patna, May 12 (NationPress) In a heartbreaking occurrence in Bihar's Banka district, a wedding party bus tragically came into contact with a high-tension electric wire on Monday, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving over a dozen others with severe burn injuries, according to local police.

Villagers and law enforcement swiftly initiated a relief and rescue effort, assisting in transporting the injured individuals to medical facilities.

The accident transpired close to Barekol village, under the jurisdiction of the Jaipur police station, as a bus filled with 'baraatis' (wedding guests) was heading back from Kaladinga to Sanga village in the Bausi block after attending a wedding.

Eyewitness accounts reveal that several guests were seated on the roof of the bus, using Palaash flower branches for shade from the sweltering heat.

These branches inadvertently made contact with an overhead high-voltage power line, unleashing a powerful electrical surge across the bus's roof.

"We were returning after the wedding when the incident occurred. Some individuals were on the roof, shielding themselves from the sun with branches and leaves," stated Bhairo Singh, the groom's father.

The deceased individuals have been identified as Vijay Pahariya (35) and Santosh Singh.

The police have dispatched their bodies for autopsy.

Other injured victims have been taken to Katoria Referral Hospital and Jaipur Hospital.

Injured individuals at Katoria Referral Hospital include Mukesh Marandi (25), Shivam Kumar (10), Lakshmi Kumari (8), Raja Kumar (10), and Dilip Kumar (30).

At Jaipur Hospital, Rajendra Singh (40), Kshama Kumari (19), Nandkishore Singh (28), Mukesh Kumar (17), Pooja Kumari (7), Govardhan Singh (30), and Mahendra Singh (60) have been admitted.

Alok Kumar, the Officer In-charge of the Jaipur Police Station, confirmed the tragic loss of two lives due to this mishap, stating that a thorough investigation is currently in progress.

"These individuals were on their way home after a wedding when the accident happened. Two people succumbed to electrical shock, while the others are receiving treatment in local hospitals," remarked Station House Officer Alok Kumar.

The district administration has pledged full support to the affected families and has commenced an investigation into the events that led to the bus coming into contact with the overhead power line.
