Patna, March 5 (NationPress) Four passengers tragically died in Bihar’s Nawada district on Wednesday after they came into contact with a downed electric wire.

The incident took place in Rajiv Nagar village, under the jurisdiction of Nadriganj police station.

The victims were on a bus journey from Rajgir in Nalanda district to Gaya via Nawada.

According to the police, a tree had collapsed on the road, obstructing traffic.

“Upon noticing the fallen tree, several passengers exited the bus to clear the road. Unfortunately, a live electric wire broke and fell on them, resulting in severe burn injuries,” an officer reported.

“Upon receiving news of the incident, we promptly arrived on the scene. Three passengers succumbed to electrocution instantly, while we managed to rescue another who later passed away at a nearby hospital,” the officer added.

“The identities of the deceased are still unknown. We are actively working to identify them. An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the tree's fall and accountability,” he stated.

Additional passengers on the bus also experienced electric shocks when the vehicle came into contact with the wire.

These individuals were treated at the hospital and were discharged after receiving initial care.

This unexpected tragedy has instigated fear within the community, with residents calling for urgent measures to avert such incidents in the future.

Previously, on July 17 of last year, fourteen individuals participating in a Muharram procession in Araria district suffered electrocution. This event occurred at Pipra Bijwad Panchayat under the Palasi block in the district.

They came into contact with a high-tension 33,000 KV transmission wire and sustained injuries. Local residents and police quickly executed a rescue operation, transporting all fourteen victims to the PHC located in Palasi block.
