Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 31 (NationPress) In a significant reshuffle, the West Bengal government on Saturday announced the transfer of 27 officers within the state police, including those in Kolkata.
Among the notable changes, Murshidabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunny Raj has been reassigned. This action came just hours after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the investigation regarding the recent unrest in Beldanga.
Dhritiman Sarkar has been appointed as the new SP of Murshidabad. Sarkar has previously held positions in districts including Jhargram, Bankura, and West Midnapore. Sources from the state secretariat have characterized this transfer as routine.
On the same day, Piyush Pandey officially took over as the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal, while Supratim Sarkar was appointed as the Commissioner of Police (CP) for Kolkata.
The reshuffle also affected the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate. Following the suspension of DC Anish Sarkar due to chaos at Yuva Bharati Krirangan during an event featuring Lionel Messi last year, Ms. Pushpa has now taken over his responsibilities.
Changes were also made in the ranks of Inspector General (IG). Amit P. Javalgi, who was appointed IG of the Burdwan Range on Friday, has now been reassigned to the Barasat Range. Alok Rajoria, previously in charge of Barasat, has been transferred to Burdwan.
Within 24 hours of Supratim Sarkar taking up the position of Kolkata Police Commissioner, several Deputy Commissioners (DCs) were also relocated. Deepak Sarkar has been designated as DC (South), succeeding Priyabrata Roy, who has been moved to the post of SP of Barasat. Bidisha Kalita Dasgupta, formerly DC (South Suburban), has been reassigned as SP of Bongaon, with Charu Sharma taking her previous position. Jaspreet Singh has been appointed as DC (East), while Dinesh Kumar, the former SP of Bongaon, has become DC (North). Amit Verma has been designated as DC (East Suburban).
Additionally, Biswa Chand Thakur has been assigned as SP of Sundarbans Police District. Pratiksha Jharkharia, the former SP of Barasat, has been transferred to Darjeeling as SP. Jyotirmoy Roy has been appointed DC (New Town) in the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate.
