Wife of Former Andhra Minister Interrogated by Police in Rice Disappearance Case

Vijayawada, January 1 (NationPress) - Jayasudha, the spouse of former Andhra Pradesh minister Perni Venkataramaiah, commonly known as Perni Nani, appeared before law enforcement on Wednesday to address allegations concerning the disappearance of rice designated for the public distribution system (PDS) from a warehouse located in Machilipatnam.
Responding to a police summons, Jayasudha, identified as the main suspect in this investigation, attended questioning at the Bandar Taluka Police Station in Krishna district.
During her interrogation, police prohibited the presence of her legal representative.
Circle Inspector Yesubabu conducted the questioning.
Jayasudha arrived at the police station in a vehicle belonging to Machilipatnam Mayor Venkateswaramma, a member of the YSR Congress Party.
On Monday, a Machilipatnam court granted Jayasudha anticipatory bail but mandated her cooperation with the investigation.
On Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh High Court instructed the police to refrain from arresting Perni Nani until the subsequent hearing scheduled for January 6. The Machilipatnam police have named Nani as the sixth accused (A-6) in this case, which involves 378 metric tonnes of PDS rice vanishing from a warehouse owned by Jayasudha in Potlapalem, situated in Bandar mandal.
Officials from the state Civil Supplies department discovered that 7,577 bags of PDS rice were unaccounted for during a recent inspection of the warehouse.
The police have filed charges under Sections 316 (3) (criminal breach of trust by a warehouse keeper), 316 (5) (criminal breach of trust by a public servant), and 61 (2) r/w 3 (5) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS), 2023.
Four individuals implicated in the case have been arrested and placed in judicial custody for 12 days. These include warehouse manager Bethapudi Manasa Teja, assistant manager of the Civil Supplies Department Ch Kotireddy, rice mill owner Borra Anjaneyulu, and lorry driver Botla Naga Manga Rao.
