Chennai, Oct 25 (NationPress) In a significant advancement for women's empowerment, the Tamil Nadu government is preparing to unveil a comprehensive digital platform known as the Women Information Bank (WIB). This initiative aims to bolster their employment, entrepreneurship, safety, and overall well-being.
The program, which is supported by the Rs 1,185-crore World Bank-backed Tamil Nadu Women Employment and Safety (TNWeSafe) Project, intends to serve as a central hub for all women-focused schemes and services across various departments.
As a multi-sectoral digital gateway, the WIB will facilitate easy access to information regarding skill training, career development, entrepreneurship, and welfare support.
Additionally, it will assist women in accessing childcare and elderly care services, hostels, and psychological or career counselling.
The platform is designed to foster networking opportunities, allowing women to connect with mentors, peers, and institutions that can aid their professional and personal development.
Officials have indicated that the WIB will provide extensive resources on healthcare, legal rights, mental well-being, social legislation, and personal safety.
Moreover, it will incorporate emergency support features such as domestic violence helplines, police contact information, and maps to nearby one-stop support centres.
A secure digital environment will be created for women to report workplace harassment or discrimination, thereby enhancing the grievance redressal framework.
The Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department has already initiated tenders for the development of this platform, which is anticipated to launch within six months.
Officials noted that the objective is to establish a dynamic, data-driven system to track beneficiaries and improve service delivery.
The WIB will amalgamate data from several departments, including Social Welfare, MSME, Skill Development, Health, Education, and Transport, ensuring interoperability and transparency.
It will also assist in policy evaluation, real-time monitoring, and evidence-based decision-making for women-centric initiatives.
The five-year TNWeSafe project is structured around three core pillars: Employ (increasing women's workforce participation), Enable (enhancing access to services and opportunities), and Empower (fortifying institutional systems). Earlier this year, tenders were also issued for developing state-level and district-level Women Quality Employment Plans (WQEPs and D-WQEPs) to pinpoint challenges and boost women's participation in the workforce throughout Tamil Nadu.
