Guna, July 17 (NationPress) - The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation Limited (MPIDC) hosted an enlightening workshop under the 'One District One Product' (ODOP) initiative in Guna district on Thursday, as reported by officials.
The workshop, aimed at enhancing local production and boosting income, attracted participation from local farmers, industry representatives, members of Guna's Chamber of Commerce, small-scale industries, the spice board, Exim Bank, and others.
Over the course of more than five hours, senior officials from MPIDC, along with Guna District Collector Kishore Kumar Kanyal, addressed various sessions, emphasizing the significance of ODOP in helping the state's local products achieve global recognition.
During one session, District Collector Kanyal encouraged farmers to embrace new technologies and high-quality grain seeds.
He also suggested they seek advice from agricultural specialists to enhance their production and increase their income. “Guna district aims to generate up to Rs 12 lakh from one acre of agricultural land each year. This initiative is vital for empowering local farmers by elevating their income. We are working toward making Madhya Pradesh self-sufficient by 2047,” Kanyal stated.
In a discussion with IANS, a young local farmer, Pappu Lodha, expressed that the workshop was both meaningful and inspiring. “Such workshops should be held annually to inform us about innovative practices. I believe that if I can apply just half of the suggestions from the workshop, it will significantly boost my income,” he mentioned.
The ODOP initiative in Madhya Pradesh is designed to foster balanced regional development by selecting, branding, and promoting a distinctive product from each district.
This initiative spans all districts of Madhya Pradesh, embracing a variety of items including green vegetables, coarse grains, handlooms, handicrafts, and artisanal tools.
Of the 19 GI-tagged products from the state, seven are included in the ODOP scheme.
Madhya Pradesh recently garnered national recognition by winning the silver award in the state and Union Territory category at the ODOP Awards 2024.
