Hyderabad, Aug 1 (NationPress) The inauguration of Unit 1 at the Yadadri Thermal Power Station took place on Friday, led by Telangana's Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and three other state ministers. This marks the commissioning of the second unit in the 4,000 MW (5x800 MW) power facility.
The inauguration occurred near Damaracherla in the Nalgonda district, with significant participation from Energy Minister Vikramarka and ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Adluri Lakshman. Alongside the unit's inauguration, they also laid the foundation stone for an integrated township at YTPS, set to be developed on 55 acres at a cost of Rs 970 crore.
The second unit of the plant is expected to be operational by December 2024. Developed by the Telangana Power Generation Corporation (TGGENCO), this project is hailed as the largest thermal power plant in the public sector.
The ministers have disclosed plans for the commissioning of the third 800 MW unit by October and the fourth in December. Vikramarka stated that the entire project is slated for dedication to the nation in January 2026, attributing earlier delays to the negligence of the prior government.
He mentioned that the current government faced delays in obtaining environmental clearances, which resulted in increased project costs. However, he noted that once the Congress party assumed power, they promptly secured the required clearances.
The Deputy CM assured that compensation for landowners affected by the project would be disbursed by August 15. Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasized that the Congress government is committed to providing job opportunities to families who have lost their lands for both the Yadadri and Pulichintala power projects.
By August 15, job appointment orders will be issued, reaffirming the government’s dedication to humanitarian principles. The minister highlighted the importance of offering long-term housing and amenities to workers.
Uttam Kumar Reddy commended Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka for playing a pivotal role in reviving this stalled thermal project, ensuring the completion of public hearings, and securing overdue environmental clearances. His leadership has been instrumental in advancing the commissioning of 1,600 MW of power generation.
