Key Takeaways
Vidisha, March 7 (NationPress) In response to criticisms from the Congress regarding Madhya Pradesh's economic situation and agricultural matters, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav asserted on Saturday that farmers previously endured long waits for electricity during the Congress administrations in the state.
Speaking at an event in Vidisha district, Chief Minister Yadav emphasized that the BJP-led government is dedicated to improving farmers' welfare during the 'Krishi Kalyan Year' 2026.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the irrigated land in Madhya Pradesh has seen a remarkable increase over the last 20 years under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governance, with an additional 10 lakh hectares in just the past two years, bringing the total to 55 lakh hectares.
Referring to former BJP Chief Ministers like Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Uma Bharti, and Babulal Gaur, Mohan Yadav remarked that their leadership has propelled significant growth in Madhya Pradesh over the past two decades.
"Under Congress rule, farmers lacked proper access to electricity even at night, but now they can expect reliable daytime electricity, reducing the dangers associated with nighttime irrigation," he stated.
He noted that the BJP government has announced a bonus of Rs 40 per quintal above the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat this year. Yadav pointed out that despite Congress's long tenure in power, the price of wheat only rose by Rs 400 per quintal from 1956 until 2003.
"From 1956 to 2003, the state government procured wheat at a maximum of Rs 400, while the MSP for wheat has soared to Rs 2,625 per quintal in the past 20 years of BJP governance. This reflects our commitment to the farmers and citizens of Madhya Pradesh," the Chief Minister asserted.
He also remarked that despite the availability of river water across the state, the Congress government had kept farmers from utilizing it for irrigation.
Chief Minister Yadav further shared that irrigation has expanded by 7.31 lakh hectares in the last two years, resulting in a total irrigated area surpassing 45 lakh hectares.
He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, stating that numerous initiatives are being launched to support farmers.
"Farmers are receiving monetary assistance through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), and the state government remains committed to safeguarding their interests," he added.
During his visit to Vidisha on Saturday, Chief Minister Yadav inaugurated and announced several development projects for the district, amounting to Rs 163.62 crore.
The Congress party on Saturday accused the Madhya Pradesh government of failing to fully utilize the funds allocated by the Centre for various schemes over the past two years, claiming that BJP governance has crippled the state’s financial structure.
