Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Navi Mumbai, Jan 12 (NationPress) - Delhi's Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra conducted an inspection of a boat currently under construction for the upcoming Yamuna cruise and revealed that the much-anticipated recreational boat cruises, similar to those in Goa, along with ferry services, are set to commence next month.
The cruise, tentatively named “Yamuna River Santosh Cruise”, is part of the Yamuna Boat Tourism and Ferry Infrastructure Development Project, which is expected to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta next month.
This initiative, located upstream of the Wazirabad Barrage between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur in North East Delhi, aims to provide residents with a new eco-friendly tourism experience while enhancing connectivity through sustainable river travel.
According to Mishra, the cruise boat will depart from Mumbai on January 20, arriving in Delhi within 3 to 4 days. The engine will be installed in Delhi, with the official launch planned for February by the Chief Minister. Additionally, various water sports activities are also expected to kick off.
Mishra emphasized that the Delhi government is fully prepared to deliver an international luxury experience at reasonable prices, alongside recreational activities.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) is supporting the Delhi government in enhancing facilities along a 6-7 km round-trip corridor between Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur, with a budget of Rs 20 crore, to promote inland water transport and short-distance urban tourism.
On June 21, Chief Minister Gupta and Mishra practiced Yoga to commemorate International Yoga Day at the Water Sports Club by the banks of the Yamuna in Sonia Vihar, announcing plans to initiate the cruise service.
Gupta participated in Yoga under the theme ‘Yoga with Yamuna’ and reiterated her commitment to cleaning the river.
She assured that the government is diligently working to prevent untreated water from drains from entering the river, ensuring that every drop flowing into the Yamuna is clean.
The ‘Yoga with Yamuna’ initiative sends a strong message: the Yamuna is undergoing a cleanup, and soon, along with boat Yoga sessions, cruise services will also begin, she said.
In comparison, a similar cruise facility at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad offers lunch or dinner at a cost ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000.
