Lucknow, Oct 10 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, on Friday, distributed keys for EWS/LIG flats to a total of 160 disadvantaged families in Gorakhpur, making their dream of homeownership a reality and ensuring this Diwali is their most memorable yet.
Among the 160 homes provided in a high-rise building, 80 families belong to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and the other 80 families from the Low-Income Group (LIG).
In addition to handing over the houses, CM Yogi also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 50 development initiatives totaling Rs 118 crore under the auspices of the Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA).
On his social media platform, the Chief Minister shared images from the ceremony, expressing: “Every young individual and every family yearns for their own home. My heartfelt congratulations to all beneficiaries and advance Diwali wishes!”
While addressing attendees after the distribution of keys, he remarked, “Every household dreams of having a roof over their heads. Today, 160 families are receiving this auspicious gift ahead of Diwali, making it even more special during the Kartik month.”
He estimated that, considering an average family size of 5-6 members, this initiative will positively impact around 700-800 individuals.
Highlighting the importance of transparent housing distribution, the Chief Minister noted that 40 displaced families were prioritized in the GDA housing plan, while the remaining 120 families were selected through a lottery system from a pool of over 9,000 applicants.
He praised the strategic location of the housing society, stating that the high-rise complex is outfitted with all modern conveniences.
The EWS flats measure 35 square meters, valued at Rs 13-15 lakh, yet are available for just Rs 5.40 lakh with subsidies. Similarly, the LIG flats span 41 square meters and are available for Rs 10.80 lakh, compared to their market price of Rs 19-20 lakh.
He asserted that when both government officials and public representatives are sincere, the less fortunate can access housing without any hurdles.
CM Yogi further stated that under PM Modi's decade-long leadership, free housing has been extended to 4 crore underprivileged individuals nationwide. In Uttar Pradesh, over 60 lakh indigent people have benefitted from housing initiatives.
“Last year, 76 flats for the needy were constructed on land reclaimed from mafias in Prayagraj. Likewise, in Lucknow, efforts are underway to free occupied land and provide housing for the underprivileged,” the Chief Minister concluded.
