Young Man Detained for Assaulting Five-Year-Old Girl in Murshidabad, Bengal

Kolkata, Dec 8 (NationPress) A young man has been detained on accusations of assaulting a five-year-old girl in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

The suspect was apprehended by the victim's father along with local residents in a nearby forest area on Saturday night.

The father of the victim claimed that the suspect took her from their home to the forested area.

Upon being caught in the act, the young man was brutally beaten by the locals.

Subsequently, the Barwan Police Station was alerted, leading to the suspect's arrest late Saturday night.

The young girl is currently receiving medical care at a local hospital. Authorities plan to present the accused in a district court on Sunday, where the public prosecutor will request police custody.

The accused faces charges under multiple sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012.

Interestingly, just a day prior, a district court in South 24 Parganas handed down a death sentence to an individual convicted of the rape and murder of a minor girl in Jaynagar during October of this year.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee praised the state police and all involved for completing the trial, conviction, and sentencing procedures within 62 days from the date of the crime.

In recent months, West Bengal has seen a troubling rise in cases of rape and rape & murder, many involving underage victims.

Among the most notorious incidents was the horrific rape and murder of a female doctor from the state-run R. G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, which occurred on the hospital premises in August. The trial for this case is currently ongoing in a special court in Kolkata.
