Mamata Banerjee Voices Approval for Swift Justice in Case of Minor Girl's Rape and Murder

Kolkata, Dec 13 (NationPress) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday voiced her approval regarding the rapid conclusion of the trial, conviction, and sentencing concerning the horrific rape and murder of a minor girl in Farakka, within the Murshidabad district of the state, which occurred in October this year.

Just last week, she had also expressed her satisfaction over the prompt completion of the trial and subsequent sentencing in a similar horrifying case involving the rape and murder of another minor girl in Jaynagar, located in the South 24 Parganas district, which also took place in October.

“Just a week ago, @WBPolice and our justice system secured capital punishment in a mere 62 days for the individual guilty of the brutal rape-murder of a minor in Jaynagar. Today, the death penalty has been imposed on one of the two accused in the heinous rape-murder of yet another minor in Farakka on 13.10.24, while his accomplice received a life sentence,” the Chief Minister stated in a message shared on X.

She reiterated her firm belief that every rapist deserves the most severe punishment, which is capital punishment.

"As a society, we must come together to eradicate this abhorrent social evil. I firmly believe that prompt, time-bound trials and punishments will act as a strong deterrent, sending a definitive message that such crimes will not be tolerated," the Chief Minister emphasized.

She also congratulated the state police and all parties involved in the prosecution for their accomplishments and extended her thoughts and prayers to the victim's family.

On Friday, the Jangipur Fast-Track Court at Murshidabad not only sentenced one to death but also issued a life sentence for the other accused, and mandated a payment of Rs 20 lakh as compensation to the victim’s family.
