Death Penalty Imposed in Bengal Minor Rape-Murder Case

Kolkata, Dec 6 (NationPress) A court in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal has delivered a death penalty on Friday to an individual found guilty of the rape and murder of a young girl in Jaynagar earlier this October.

The convict, Mustakin Sardar, was found guilty on Thursday by the district court judge in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas. The court issued the death sentence the following day.

This sentence was pronounced precisely 62 days after the discovery of the victim's body on October 4.

Judge Subrata Chattopadhya of the district court also mandated a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to be paid to the victim's family.

Following the announcement of the death penalty, advocate Bivas Chattopadhyay remarked that the case was particularly heinous and classified it as one of the rarest of rare crimes.

He stated, "Thus, we sought a death penalty which the court has duly issued. The pivotal aspect of this case was the DNA profile matching, leaving no doubt regarding the convict's guilt."

Upon the verdict being delivered, the West Bengal Police shared a message via their official X account, referring to the ruling as "Justice for Jaynagar".

They expressed, "Justice for Jaynagar. The death penalty for the accused in the rape and murder of a minor girl was delivered within an astonishing 62 days."

The police further asserted that due to a swift and precise investigation, the chargesheet was filed within 25 days of the crime.

They added, "The trial commenced on November 5 and wrapped up in merely 21 days. This verdict is unprecedented. In the history of West Bengal, this is the first instance where an accused has been convicted and sentenced within 62 days. Our primary objective was to provide rapid and effective justice for the victim's parents. This is a milestone for us."
