Minor Girl's Rape and Murder Case: Mamata Welcomes Swift Conviction

Kolkata, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, expressed her contentment on Friday regarding the swift conclusion of the trial, conviction, and sentencing in the horrific case of a minor girl's rape and murder that occurred in Jaynagar, situated in the South 24 Parganas district, this past October.

In reference to the decision made by a district court earlier today, which sentenced the perpetrator, Mustakin Sardar, to death, the Chief Minister stated that the entire process was completed in just 62 days from the date of the crime, a timeline that is unprecedented in West Bengal's history and aligns with her government's policy of zero tolerance towards such offenses.

She also extended her congratulations to the state police department and all those involved, labeling the quick resolution as an exceptional achievement.

"I applaud the state police and all those partaking in the prosecution process for this remarkable accomplishment. The government maintains a zero tolerance stance against crimes committed against women and is committed to ensuring that justice is neither delayed nor denied," stated the Chief Minister.

Following the announcement of the verdict on Friday, the West Bengal Police issued a statement highlighting the completion of the trial, conviction, and sentencing process within 62 days of the crime.

Political analysts interpret the Chief Minister's statement as a subtle indication directed towards the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is currently investigating the brutal rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital that occurred within the hospital grounds in August of this year.

Despite the R.G. Kar incident occurring nearly two months prior to the Jaynagar case and the central agency taking over the investigation within a week of the crime, the trial process in this matter at a special court in Kolkata has yet to conclude.
