Chatra, March 21 (NationPress) A wave of tension swept through Jharkhand’s Chatra city after a 22-year-old man was brutally lynched, prompting hundreds of locals to take to the streets on Friday morning, demanding justice and rapid action against the culprits.

Businesses across Chatra district remained closed in solidarity with the protestors, who claimed that Ankit Gupta was targeted by a violent mob. The furious crowd called for the swift arrest of those involved in his demise.

Gupta, who lived in Deepa Mohalla of Chatra, was the son of a local handcart vendor. Eyewitnesses reported that he was returning home on his scooter late Thursday night when he was ambushed close to the city’s Jama Masjid. The assailants reportedly surrounded him and launched a vicious attack with iron rods and various weapons.

Residents in the area quickly informed the Chatra Sadar police. Gupta was initially taken to a nearby hospital for urgent care, but due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was later transferred to RIMS in Ranchi, where he eventually died.

As news of Gupta's passing spread on Friday morning, the city erupted in protests. Local business owners shuttered their shops, and Gupta's family, along with hundreds of supporters, organized rallies demanding the immediate capture of the assailants.

In response to the escalating unrest, police increased their presence in sensitive areas to uphold law and order.

According to a statement from the Chatra SP office, the main suspects have been identified as Nilesh Gupta, Milan Gupta, Sumit Kumar Gupta, and others. Law enforcement agencies are actively conducting raids to apprehend these individuals.

Initial investigations indicate that the attack arose from a longstanding personal feud.

SP Vikas Pandey announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed under the direction of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sandeep Suman to thoroughly investigate the incident.

“Some of the suspects have previous criminal histories. We are committed to bringing all those responsible to justice and will ensure prompt action,” added the SP.
