Patna, Jan 1 (NationPress) A tragic event has disturbed the peace in Katihar District, Bihar, when unidentified gunmen shot a young man, resulting in his immediate death, according to police reports on Thursday.

The shooting transpired near NH-77 at Kursela Chowk, under the jurisdiction of the Kursela police.

This violent act has sparked widespread panic and anxiety in the surrounding community.

The victim, identified as Sagar Jha, also known as Mithu Jha, hailed from Kataria Village within the Kursela police area.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ranjan Kumar Singh revealed that Mithu had a history of criminal activities and had recently been released on bail related to the notorious Mithun Yadav murder case from Navgachia.

“Mithu had a criminal history, including involvement in a murder case and two violations of the Arms Act. He was currently free on bail stemming from a murder charge,” SDPO Singh stated.

Authorities suspect that this incident might be tied to an ongoing gang rivalry, although the precise motive remains under investigation.

The shooting occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. during peak traffic hours at NH-77 Kursela Chowk, causing considerable chaos.

Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene while firing their weapons into the air.

Upon being alerted, the Kursela police quickly arrived at the scene.

Mithu was pronounced dead at the crime scene.

The police retrieved Jha's remains and transported them to Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
