Two Criminals Shot Dead in Patna Encounter; Police Officer Injured

Patna, Jan 7 (NationPress) In a significant operation, two criminals were eliminated, and one police sub-inspector suffered injuries during an encounter in the Hinduni locality of Patna on Tuesday.
According to officials, a group of approximately eight to ten criminals had gathered in the Hinduni area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Phulwarisharif police station, with plans to carry out a major incident. The Patna Police received intelligence regarding their movements and formed a specialized team to conduct a raid.
The clash took place around 2 a.m.
City Superintendent of Police Sharat S. stated that law enforcement acted based on a tip-off concerning the gang's activities.
“A dedicated team was formed to apprehend the suspects. Upon their arrival, the gang members opened fire on the police. In response, the police returned fire. Four criminals were injured and transported to Patna Medical College and Hospital, where two unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. The other two are currently receiving treatment,” Sharat explained.
The police acted swiftly, managing to apprehend two of the injured suspects who were also hospitalized.
The detained suspects were identified as residents of Nalanda district, while about four additional suspects fled the scene and remain at large.
During the operation, a sub-inspector, identified as Vivek Kumar, who is stationed at the Gaurichak police station, sustained gunshot wounds and was admitted to Patna AIIMS for urgent treatment. His condition is currently critical, and he is under close medical observation in the Intensive Care Unit.
District police are investigating to uncover the nature of the criminals' activities and any links to other offenses. An FIR has been lodged, and the investigation is actively ongoing. The police team also recovered two pistols and several spent cartridges from the scene.
