According to an official statement, a total of 74 university students from 21 States and Union Territories successfully finished the OSTI program that was kicked off by NHRC Secretary General Bharat Lal on August 22.
The OSTI provides students from diverse academic backgrounds with essential tools to recognize and tackle crucial human rights issues. Through experiential learning and interactive dialogues, participants delve into international law, human rights challenges in India, and effective advocacy techniques.
Sayani congratulated the interns for completing the enriching two-week experience and appreciated their commitment.
Highlighting the NHRC’s role as a protector of justice and equality, she discussed the Commission’s involvement in areas like women's rights, child protection, mental health, custodial justice, and the empowerment of marginalized communities.

By citing motivating examples, she urged the interns to actively defend human dignity, apply their knowledge for societal benefit, and uphold constitutional values in every aspect of their lives.
She concluded her address with a call for the youth to remain vigilant, speak out against injustice, and aid in constructing a more just and equitable society.
During the internship report presentation, NHRC Joint Secretary Saidingpuii Chhakchhuak noted that, in addition to various human rights sessions led by NHRC Members and senior officials, experts, and civil society representatives, the interns also participated in virtual tours of Tihar Jail, Police Station, and Asha Kiran Shelter Home in Delhi.
