Key Takeaways
Amaravati, April 16 (NationPress) A court in Kuppam, Andhra Pradesh, has granted bail to Pudi Srihari, the General Secretary (Media) of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), following his arrest on Wednesday due to an alleged defamatory social media post targeting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
After his release, Srihari addressed the media, asserting that he neither created, shared, nor forwarded the controversial content. With over 25 years of experience as a senior journalist, he emphasized his commitment to operating within legal boundaries.
Srihari accused certain media outlets of attempting to tarnish his reputation, noting that he had no prior legal issues. He expressed willingness to cooperate with the police investigation, having already provided necessary information.
He reiterated his adherence to journalistic ethics and respect for the law, even in his political role.
YSRCP General Secretary (Legal), Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy, claimed that Srihari was unlawfully detained without following proper protocol. He confirmed that party leadership ensured legal assistance and successfully secured bail, warning against police overreach and criticizing the misuse of legal measures in social media cases.
MLC K.R.J. Bharat labeled the arrest as unnecessary and a form of harassment, stating that the case lacks legal merit. He expressed satisfaction with the bail outcome, affirming that such actions would not weaken the resolve of YSRCP leaders and supporters.
Srihari, who formerly served as the Chief Public Relations Officer during Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's tenure as Chief Minister, was apprehended at his residence in Vijayawada and subsequently taken to Kuppam.
Authorities reportedly confiscated his mobile phone and laptop. The case against him in Chittoor stemmed from a cartoon depicting Chief Minister Naidu with a knife.
