New Delhi, March 11 (NationPress) Telecom giant Airtel announced on Tuesday that it has entered into a partnership with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to introduce Starlink’s high-speed internet services to its clientele in India.
This marks the first agreement of its kind in India, pending SpaceX obtaining the necessary permissions to offer Starlink in the region.
Airtel and SpaceX will investigate the possibility of providing Starlink equipment in Airtel’s retail locations, delivering Starlink services to business clients, and connecting communities, schools, and health centers, particularly in even the most remote areas of India.
Furthermore, Airtel and SpaceX will examine how Starlink could assist in expanding and improving the Airtel network, along with SpaceX leveraging Airtel’s ground network infrastructure and capabilities in India, as stated by the company.
“Collaborating with SpaceX to provide Starlink to Airtel customers in India marks a major milestone and underscores our dedication to next-generation satellite connectivity,” remarked Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Bharti Airtel.
“This partnership enhances our capacity to deliver world-class high-speed broadband to even the most isolated regions of India, guaranteeing that every individual, enterprise, and community has dependable internet,” he continued.
Starlink will augment and enhance Airtel’s product offerings to ensure reliable and affordable broadband for our Indian clientele – wherever they reside and work, stated Vittal.
By incorporating Starlink, alongside its existing partnership with Eutelsat OneWeb, Airtel will enhance its capability to provide nationwide connectivity and reach previously underserved areas, especially those with minimal or no coverage.
With the Starlink enterprise suite, Airtel will be equipped to offer businesses, enterprises, and communities extensive and seamless connectivity solutions.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Airtel and unlock the transformative potential that Starlink can bring to the people of India. We are consistently inspired by the remarkable achievements of individuals, businesses, and organizations when they are connected through Starlink,” expressed Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX.
“The Airtel team has been instrumental in shaping India’s telecom narrative, so partnering with them to enhance our direct offering is a logical progression for our business,” Shotwell added.
Starlink provides high-speed, low-latency internet access to users globally. As the world’s first and largest satellite constellation operating in low Earth orbit, Starlink delivers broadband internet that supports streaming, online gaming, video calls, and more.
