BYD Launches Blade Battery 2.0: Charge 50% Faster Than Existing EVs
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 7 (NationPress) The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has introduced the advanced Blade Battery 2.0, an innovative EV battery technology that claims to offer a driving range exceeding 1,000 kilometers along with rapid charging capabilities and enhanced safety features.
As per the company’s claims, this battery can achieve a driving range of over 1,000 kilometers based on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle.
This development represents a noteworthy advancement from the previous generation Blade Battery, which generally provided a range of around 600 kilometers under similar testing conditions.
A standout feature of this latest battery is its remarkable charging speed. BYD asserts that its “flash charging” technology can elevate the battery charge from 10 percent to 70 percent in merely five minutes.
Charging from 10 percent to 97 percent can be accomplished in approximately nine minutes under standard conditions, according to the company.
Additionally, the battery demonstrates robust performance in extreme weather scenarios. Even when exposed to temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius for a duration of 24 hours, the battery can recharge from 20 percent to 97 percent in roughly 12 minutes, as per the company's findings.
Wang Chuanfu, the chairman and CEO of BYD, stated that the new battery is engineered to provide rapid charging even in harsh cold conditions.
“The battery employs advanced energy density technology, facilitating longer driving ranges for upcoming electric vehicles,” he noted.
The company reported that vehicles featuring the Blade Battery 2.0 can recharge between 30 percent and 50 percent quicker than most existing electric vehicles.
Wang also recommended charging to 97 percent to ensure that the remaining battery capacity can be utilized through regenerative braking during operation.
Safety continues to be a pivotal concern in the Blade Battery design. BYD indicated that the battery has successfully undergone thorough safety examinations, including nail penetration and impact tests, and conforms to safety regulations that surpass China’s latest national standards.
The inaugural vehicle anticipated to utilize the new battery technology will be the Yangwang U7, a luxury electric sedan from BYD’s high-end brand Yangwang.
According to product director Zheng Yu, the vehicle will provide a pure electric range of approximately 1,006 kilometers under CLTC conditions when outfitted with a 150 kWh battery pack.
