New Delhi, Oct 25 (NationPress) Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's shift towards sustainable energy is rapidly advancing, opening up avenues for farmers to enhance their income, stated Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday.
He praised the role of the 2G Bio-ethanol plants in Golaghat, Assam, emphasizing their positive impact on the rural economy, marking them as a significant advantage for farmers throughout the Northeast.
"Following the vision of PM @narendramodi, India's energy transition is not only steering towards green fuels but is also fostering prosperity for farmers, enhancing their income," the minister shared on his official X account.
"Aligned with the clean energy agenda, the 2G Bio-ethanol plant at @NRL_MoPNG in Golaghat, Assam, is transforming the rural economy, acting as a blessing for farmers in the Northeast," he further remarked.
Previously, the Union Minister noted that India's ethanol initiative is a transformative force, boosting farmers' earnings, generating employment opportunities, saving the nation billions in foreign currency, and minimizing its carbon emissions.
As per the Union Minister, the ethanol initiative has contributed Rs 1,07,580 crore to farmers' income while saving Rs 1,26,210 crore in foreign exchange through reduced crude oil imports.
He also emphasized that the government’s ethanol strategy aligns with PM Modi's vision of transforming ‘annadatas’ (food providers) into ‘urjadatas’ (energy providers).
“This initiative not only elevates farmers’ income and creates employment but also aids in saving foreign currency and is beneficial for the environment,” Puri stated on social media platform X.
The northeastern region is set to reap significant benefits from a bamboo-based bio-ethanol refinery in Assam, which is nearing completion as part of this green initiative.
This new bio-refinery is expected to produce 49 kilotonnes annually (KTPA), potentially increasing the income of nearly 30,000 rural families across Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Nagaland by utilizing bamboo, often referred to as "green gold," for ethanol production.
Minister Puri also shared images of the site, highlighting it as a symbol of sustainable development that harmonizes environmental awareness with economic growth.
