New Delhi, March 30 (NationPress) On Monday, the government gave the green light to 29 fresh applications under its electronics component manufacturing initiative, designed to enhance domestic production and attract investment in this vital sector.
S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), revealed that these new proposals entail a total investment of Rs 7,104 crore.
He further noted that these investments are projected to create approximately 14,246 jobs, significantly bolstering employment opportunities within the electronics manufacturing domain.
According to Krishnan, the approved initiatives will facilitate the production of electronic components valued at Rs 84,515 crore.
“This will reinforce India’s standing in the global electronics supply chain,” he emphasized.
With this latest approval batch, the overall number of applications sanctioned under the scheme has reached 75.
Last year, the senior official mentioned that India’s digital economy, which comprised about 6-7 percent of the nation’s GDP prior to 2010 and had doubled by 2014, is currently growing at double the rate of the overall economy.
In a speech at the Nagaland Digital Entrepreneurship and Startup Fest in December, Krishnan underscored the immense talent among Naga youth, particularly their creativity and fluency in English, while also highlighting the importance of institutions such as the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) in developing this potential.
“Out of 55 NIELIT centers across India, 20 are situated in the Northeast region,” he pointed out.
“The digital economy is expanding at twice the rate of the overall economy,” Krishnan reiterated.
Addressing cyber security, he warned that India must not rely on foreign technologies in such a critical area.
He characterized the Cyber Security Lab at NIELIT Kohima as state-of-the-art and among the finest in the nation, making significant contributions to cyber policing.
