New Delhi, Dec 10 (NationPress) The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has initiated a month-long campaign aimed at enhancing the health and well-being of women and girls within the Delhi Metro.

The campaign commenced at the Sultanpur Metro Station and is set to run throughout December and January. It will disseminate vital information on topics such as women’s safety, mental health support, digital inclusion, Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT), and Tuberculosis (TB) awareness across various metro trains and select stations,” stated the Ministry.

“In partnership with WHO, we’ve launched this campaign to communicate essential messages to the residents of Delhi. One significant message is: agar swasth naari hai, to sashakt parivaar hai, sashakt rashtra hai (which translates to when a woman is healthy, the family and nation can thrive),” said Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, speaking to IANS.

She added, “The campaign also seeks to promote compliance with the PCPNDT Act and encourage individuals to refrain from gender determination.”

The Health Secretary highlighted that advancements in technology are sometimes misused to ascertain the sex of unborn children.

The primary goal of the Act is to combat female foeticide and address the nation’s declining sex ratio.

Moreover, the campaign will emphasize tuberculosis awareness, contributing to the TB Mukt Abhiyaan in India. Given the high incidence of TB in Delhi, this campaign aims to mobilize a public movement to combat this deadly infectious disease, Srivastava explained.

As per the latest figures from the Ni-kshay portal, Delhi has reported 98,309 TB cases between January and October 2025.

Significantly, the state has screened nearly 878,000 individuals and conducted approximately 380,000 chest X-rays to expedite the identification of new TB cases under the national TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

“Utilizing the Delhi Metro allows these crucial messages to reach millions of daily commuters, thereby enhancing awareness and empowering women and girls throughout the city,” stated Srivastava.

Dr. Catharina Boehme, Officer-in-Charge, WHO South-East Asia, remarked, “Healthy women are the foundation of a healthy family, community, and nation.”

“At this metro station, some journeys conclude while others commence. Today marks the conclusion of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. As that campaign concludes, another one begins. We are excited to launch the Delhi Metro campaign for Women’s and Girls’ Health and Well-being, founded on two simple yet profound principles: Healthy Women = Healthy Nations and #BecozSheMatters.

“The health of women and girls, including their mental health, is vital not only for their well-being but, most importantly, for the well-being of society as a whole,” she concluded.
