The focus of the discussions between these two leaders was on advancing joint efforts in quantum technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), biotechnology, and other emerging fields.
Additionally, they pledged to implement the 2025-2027 Executive Programme for Scientific and Technological Cooperation, which aims to promote collaboration in pivotal technologies such as AI and digitalisation.
The Indo-Italian initiative will encompass 10 research projects and 10 collaborative ventures.
“India's strategic investments and policies are steering the nation toward becoming a global hub of emerging technologies,” Singh stated, emphasizing India’s significant advancements in areas such as AI, High-Performance Computing (HPC), Big Data, and biotechnology.
He also highlighted the nation’s key milestones in healthcare and the establishment of a vibrant startup ecosystem, which is now the third largest in the world.
In a social media post, the Embassy of India in Rome described the collaboration as “a concrete step towards the future of science and innovation” and expressed gratitude to Singh for “the fruitful meeting”.
“We have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen scientific collaboration between Italy and India, fostering dialogue and knowledge exchange among universities, research institutions, and artistic training,” the post noted.
“The agreement outlines various qualifying actions: incentives for the mobility of scientists and researchers; promotion of joint research projects on strategic and common themes; and the sharing of scientific infrastructure,” it added.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to longstanding collaboration in areas like infectious diseases, quantum technologies, green hydrogen, renewable energy, cultural heritage preservation technologies, and the sustainable blue economy.
They also agreed to investigate new avenues for collaboration, such as Industry 4.0 and clean energy.
