Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 1 (NationPress) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on Sunday that the government is set to form a high-powered 'Education to Employment and Enterprise' Standing Committee. This committee is tasked with recommending strategies that emphasize the services sector as a pivotal component for achieving Viksit Bharat, as outlined in the 2026-27 Budget proposals.
This initiative aims to position India as a global leader in services, targeting a 10 percent share of the global market by 2047. The Committee will identify priority areas to maximize growth, job creation, and export potential. Additionally, they will evaluate the effects of emerging technologies like AI on employment and skill needs, proposing necessary measures, the Finance Minister stated.
She emphasized that while the Indian design industry is growing swiftly, there is a notable shortage of designers in the country. The Union Budget includes plans to create a new National Institute of Design via a challenge route, aimed at enhancing design education and development in India's eastern region.
The government intends to assist states in establishing five University Townships near major industrial and logistics corridors through the challenge route. These academic zones will accommodate various universities, colleges, research institutions, skill centers, and residential complexes.
In higher education STEM fields, the long hours of study and lab work can be challenging for female students. To address this, the Union Budget proposes the establishment of one girls’ hostel in every district, funded through value gap funding (VGF).
To advance astrophysics and astronomy through interactive experiences, four Telescope Infrastructure facilities will be created or upgraded: the National Large Solar Telescope, the National Large Optical Infrared Telescope, the Himalayan Chandra Telescope, and the COSMOS 2 Planetarium, the Finance Minister added.
Presenting a Yuva Shakti-driven Budget, which underscores the government's commitment to the poor, marginalized, and disadvantaged, the Finance Minister affirmed that India will steadfastly pursue Viksit Bharat, ensuring a balance of ambition and inclusion.
