New Delhi, March 21 (NationPress) The upcoming second edition of the ‘5G Innovation Hackathon 2026’ is set to promote advanced telecom solutions, aiming to accelerate the creation of innovative and scalable technologies utilizing 5G and related innovations, as stated by the government.
Launched by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), this initiative is part of the ‘100 5G Use Case Labs’ program. The submission period remains open until April 17.
Participants including students, startups, MSMEs, and innovators from across the nation are encouraged to take part.
“Submissions will be processed through the designated 100 5G Use Case Lab institutions, serving as central hubs. Each entry will undergo a thorough multi-stage evaluation process, encompassing institute-level screening, regional committee reviews, national-level evaluations through presentations, prototype development support, and final assessments based on live demonstrations,” stated the DoT.
Proposals are welcomed across a wide range of thematic areas, including 5G and 5G Advanced based use cases, applications of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for telecom technology advancements, as well as IoT-enabled applications in vital sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and industrial automation.
Furthermore, selected teams will receive both financial and infrastructural assistance to transform their ideas into functional prototypes.
A dedicated seed funding pool of Rs 50 lakh has been allocated for this purpose.
Additionally, teams will gain access to the state-of-the-art infrastructure provided at the 100 5G Use Case Labs located within leading academic institutions, enabling the testing, validation, and enhancement of their solutions.
The Hackathon boasts a total prize pool exceeding Rs 10 lakh, with the first prize being Rs 5,00,000, Rs 3,00,000 for the runner-up, and Rs 1,50,000 for the second runner-up, alongside a special Best Idea award of Rs 50,000.
Moreover, support for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) filing will be available for up to 25 teams.
The final results will be announced on October 1, 2026, with the chosen innovations showcased and rewarded at the India Mobile Congress 2026, as per the DoT.
