Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 23 (NationPress) D.K. Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, stated on Monday that the potential prohibition of mobile phones in schools is currently being deliberated, alongside mounting pressure from parents.
"Several nations have adopted similar regulations. This matter is also being evaluated at the global level," he remarked while addressing media inquiries near his home.
When questioned about limiting mobile phone access for students, he stated: “It's inappropriate to publicly reveal the ways in which mobile phones are misused. This is why discussions are ongoing regarding this subject.”
Home Minister G. Parameshwara also confirmed that there have been talks regarding a mobile phone ban in educational institutions. He noted that allowing children under 16 to possess mobile phones is adversely affecting their education in various aspects. "Numerous countries have conducted research and implemented bans on mobile devices. The Chief Minister has also contemplated this issue. A decision will be made after analyzing its advantages and disadvantages," he added.
Regarding Minister Mahadevappa's comments on a Dalit Chief Minister, Shivakumar responded: "He is a significant national leader. I extend my regards to him from here."
When asked about a report from the National Water Quality Standards Authority indicating that the lake water in Bengaluru is unsafe for drinking, he clarified: "The government has never asserted that Bengaluru's lake water should be consumed or used for bathing. These lakes are intended for groundwater recharge. The BWSSB treats water from the Thippagondanahalli reservoir. Bengaluru's lake water is not designed for drinking or bathing purposes."
In response to the Congress protest against the Viksit Bharat—Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, he noted that the Central government has not provided any clarification or directive.
"Wages for previous work remain unpaid. The law has become ineffective. Laborers and the impoverished are facing injustices. We are organizing a significant protest against this issue. A ‘NREGA Bachao Andolan’ protest has been scheduled in Chikkaballapur,” he stated.
