Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 23 (NationPress) Early intervention should be recognized as a national duty essential for securing the future of children facing developmental delays and various special needs, stated Dr. Virendra Kumar, the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, on Friday.
During the launch of the Cross Disability Early Intervention Centre (CDEIC) at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID) in Noida, he highlighted the government's steadfast dedication to inclusive and early support systems.
He assured that the Ministry will persist in enhancing early intervention services so that children with developmental delays and disabilities can realize their utmost potential and engage meaningfully in society.
“Early childhood intervention is not just a service; it is a national obligation to safeguard every child's future,” Kumar asserted.
“Institutions like CDEIC symbolize the Indian government's commitment to support children from the earliest stages, ensuring timely, scientific, and compassionate assistance,” he continued.
Emphasizing the transformative impact of early intervention, Kumar remarked that the initial six years of life are crucial for brain development and long-term outcomes in health, learning, and social involvement.
Instructing that the Noida centre develop into a benchmark for excellence, the Minister stressed that quality should be evident not only in infrastructure and aesthetics but also in cutting-edge technology, skilled personnel, and evidence-based methodologies.
He further underscored that families, particularly parents and caregivers, play a pivotal role in successful early intervention and directed the centre to implement regular, structured caregiver training programmes with suitable certification to empower families as equal partners in the child’s developmental journey.
“Parents are the first and most powerful therapists in a child’s life. With the right knowledge and support, no child with developmental delay will be left behind,” he added.
The Minister reiterated that through the collaborative efforts of professionals, institutions, and the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), CDEICs should evolve into beacons of hope, trust, and innovation.
The CDEIC in Noida is structured to offer comprehensive, multi-disciplinary services for children facing developmental delays and special needs. The centre will provide occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech therapy, medical consultation, special education, family counseling, and school-readiness interventions, ensuring holistic care under one roof.
With advanced facilities, the centre aims to serve a substantial population of children in the vital 0-6 years age bracket from Noida and neighboring areas.
