New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) On Thursday, NITI Aayog announced the signing of a statement of intent (SOI) with UNICEF India aimed at enhancing strategic healthcare initiatives in Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks.

This collaboration seeks to harness the combined strengths of both organizations to improve maternal and child nutrition in marginalized regions.

NITI Aayog stated, “This partnership will foster multi-stakeholder engagement and fortify the implementation systems for nutrition and health interventions at the block level.”

The agreement was formalized by Rohit Kumar, Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme at NITI Aayog, alongside Arjan de Wagt, Deputy Representative at UNICEF India.

Kumar emphasized that collaborations with entities like UNICEF India will significantly bolster efforts to tackle pressing health and nutrition issues while improving service delivery in high-priority areas.

“The Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme has illustrated the vital role of convergence, collaboration, and data-informed governance in expediting development outcomes,” he remarked.

UNICEF India, through its initiative ‘IMPAct4Nutrition’ (I4N), will contribute technical support and facilitate engagement with businesses, public sector entities, and industry groups to direct corporate social responsibility (CSR) investments toward nutrition-centered programs.

The focus of this agreement will be on enhancing Anganwadi infrastructure, boosting nutrition awareness, increasing the adoption of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), and strengthening the capabilities of frontline workers, according to NITI Aayog.

Moreover, the partnership is expected to mobilize CSR partners to endorse health and nutrition initiatives, encourage community involvement, and create knowledge-sharing platforms to identify and promote scalable best practices across the Aspirational Districts and Blocks.

Earlier this week, NITI Aayog also established a partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to foster sustainable development in the Aspirational Districts and Blocks.

The two organizations signed the Record of Discussions for Phase II of the Project aimed at promoting Japan–India collaborative actions towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
