New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) - On Thursday, NITI Aayog announced the signing of a Statement of Intent (SOI) with UNICEF India aimed at facilitating strategic interventions in aspirational districts and blocks. This collaboration is designed to harness the strengths of both organizations to enhance maternal and child nutrition in areas that need it the most.
The SOI was executed by Rohit Kumar, the Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme at NITI Aayog, alongside Arjan de Wagt, Deputy Representative for UNICEF India, as stated by the government think tank.
According to NITI Aayog, “This partnership will foster multi-stakeholder engagement and bolster the implementation systems for nutrition and health initiatives at the block level.”
Kumar emphasized that collaborations with organizations like UNICEF India will enhance efforts to tackle vital health and nutrition issues and improve last-mile service delivery in priority regions.
“The Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme has highlighted the significance of convergence, collaboration, and data-driven governance in achieving developmental goals,” he stated.
UNICEF India will utilize its IMPAct4Nutrition (I4N) platform to offer technical expertise and engage with businesses, public sector enterprises, and industry associations to direct corporate social responsibility (CSR) investments towards nutrition-focused initiatives, as informed by the government.
The collaboration will concentrate on enhancing Anganwadi infrastructure, raising nutrition awareness, boosting participation in Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), and strengthening the capabilities of frontline workers, according to the apex public policy body.
NITI Aayog also noted that this partnership will involve mobilizing CSR stakeholders to support health and nutrition initiatives, encourage community involvement, and create knowledge-sharing platforms to identify and disseminate best practices across Aspirational Districts and Blocks.
Earlier this week, NITI Aayog entered into a separate agreement with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to promote sustainable development in Aspirational Districts and Blocks.
The two entities signed a Record of Discussions for Phase II of the Project aimed at promoting Japan-India Cooperative Actions toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
