New Delhi, Sep 8 (NationPress) Union Health Minister JP Nadda emphasized the necessity of incorporating physiotherapy into healthy ageing programs, stating that it significantly enhances the quality of life for individuals at all stages. Every year, World Physiotherapy Day is celebrated on September 8 to honor the essential contributions of physiotherapists within the healthcare system.
Nadda highlighted the pivotal role of physiotherapy in aiding recovery from falls, strokes, and various other conditions.
“On this World Physiotherapy Day, let's recognize the vital contributions of physiotherapy in boosting mobility, fostering independence, and improving the overall quality of life for people of all ages,” the Health Minister conveyed through a post on social media platform X.
This year’s theme, “Healthy Ageing – Role of Physiotherapy in Falls and Frailty,” underscores its significance in preventing falls and managing frailty among the elderly, facilitating their journey towards active and dignified ageing,” Nadda remarked.
“We must continue to advocate for physiotherapy as a key component of healthy ageing initiatives nationwide,” he asserted.
While often associated with back pain treatment, physiotherapy is crucial for aiding recovery from strokes, sports injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, chronic pain management, and supporting elderly individuals at risk of falls.
Additionally, the Minister addressed various initiatives launched by the government aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of elderly citizens in India.
“Under the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji, the government has rolled out numerous schemes to benefit the elderly population, accessible at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and government hospitals,” Nadda stated, encouraging senior citizens to utilize these healthcare services.
Over 1.6 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are delivering primary healthcare across the country.
The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) offers senior citizens aged 70 and above free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh on a family basis.
The government has also initiated programs focused on elderly health and welfare, including the National Programme for Health Care of the Elderly (NPHCE), which provides dedicated healthcare services at both primary and tertiary levels, and the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY), which supplies physical and assisted living devices.
