New Delhi, Oct 28 (NationPress) The Union government has unveiled the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2025, which aims to celebrate the remarkable contributions of the nation’s foremost scientists and innovators in the realms of science, technology, and innovation.

This esteemed award is presented in four categories: Vigyan Ratna, Vigyan Shri, Vigyan Yuva – Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, and the Vigyan Team award.

The Vigyan Ratna is awarded for lifetime achievements in science and technology, while the Vigyan Shri honors outstanding accomplishments in specific domains.

The Vigyan Yuva award recognizes young scientists under 45 who have made significant contributions, and the Vigyan Team award appreciates the collaborative efforts of groups in research and innovation.

Collectively, these four categories encompass 13 fields including physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, medicine, and space science.

By acknowledging the country’s visionaries in the fields of science and technology, the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar seeks to inspire future generations, fortify the research ecosystem, and expedite India’s emergence as a global frontrunner in S&T innovation. The award ceremony will be conducted at a later date, which will be communicated to the awardees separately, as stated by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Renowned astrophysicist Professor Jayant Vishnu Narlikar has been honored posthumously with the 2025 Vigyan Ratna award.

Recipients of the Vigyan Shri award include Dr Gyanendra Pratap Singh (Agricultural Science), Dr Yusuf Mohammad Seikh (Atomic Energy), Dr K Thangaraj (Biological Sciences), Professor Pradeep Thalappil (Chemistry), Professor Aniruddha Bhalchandra Pandit (Engineering Sciences), Dr S Venkata Mohan (Environmental Science), Professor Mahan Mj (Mathematics and Computer Science), and Jayan N (Space Science and Technology).

Fifteen young researchers have been honored with the Vigyan Yuva Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar award, including Dr Jagdis Gupta Kapuganti (Agricultural Science), Dr Satendra Kumar Mangrauthia (Agricultural Science), Debarka Sengupta (Biological Sciences), Dr Deepa Agashe (Biological Sciences), Dr Dibyendu Das (Chemistry), Dr Waliur Rahaman (Earth Science), Professor Arkaprava Basu (Engineering Sciences), Professor Sabyasachi Mukherjee (Mathematics & Computer Science), Professor Shweta Prem Agrawal (Mathematics & Computer Science), Dr Suresh Kumar (Medicine), Professor Amit Kumar Agarwal (Physics), Professor Surhud Shrikant More (Physics), Ankur Garg (Space Science & Technology), and Professor Mohanasankar Sivaprakasam (Technology & Innovation).

The CSIR's Aroma Mission team has received the Vigyan Team award for their significant contributions to agricultural science.

“Your exceptional contributions across various fields of science, technology, and innovation epitomize the pinnacle of Indian research and serve as an inspiration to the entire scientific community,” stated Abhay Karandikar, Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, offering his congratulations to all awardees.

“These awards embody the spirit of curiosity, creativity, and dedication that characterizes Indian science. They not only celebrate individual excellence but also motivate a new generation of researchers to expand the horizons of knowledge and innovation,” he added on the social media platform X.

Nominations were submitted last year via the national awards portal and were assessed by a committee of esteemed scientific leaders led by the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.
