New Delhi, Jan 31 (NationPress) Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur is set to travel to New York to head the Indian delegation at the 64th Session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development (CSocD).
This annual gathering, taking place from February 2 to 10 in Conference Room 4, UN Headquarters, US, serves as a worldwide platform for Member States to assess progress, share insights, and exchange best practices.
According to the Ministry of Women and Child Development, India’s involvement in this session underscores its ongoing commitment to multilateral efforts in social development and its dedication to engaging in constructive discussions on global social policy priorities.
Thakur’s participation will also enable her to engage with UN agencies and representatives from other Member States on various social development issues.
The Commission for Social Development, a key commission under the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), aims to enhance international collaboration on social development matters, including social inclusion, equity, and welfare-oriented policies.
The event's primary theme is “advancing social development and social justice through coordinated, equitable, and inclusive policies.” Additionally, it will address critical issues such as poverty eradication and ensuring dignity via resilient care and support systems.
High-level discussions during CSocD64 will aim to transform Doha commitments into national actions, emphasizing accountability, participation, and equity.
Thakur previously led the Indian delegation at the 63rd session of CSocD, held in February 2025.
She mentioned that India is actively promoting digital and financial literacy among women entrepreneurs in rural areas.
“India is embracing a ‘women-led development’ approach, ensuring that women play pivotal roles in shaping the nation’s development trajectory,” Thakur remarked.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, providing a vital opportunity to realign global priorities and enhance collective action.
