New Delhi, March 9 (NationPress) A governmental delegation, spearheaded by Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi, is prepared to engage in the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), commencing on March 10 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, as per an announcement made on Sunday.
The minister is expected to deliver the national statement at the Commission and engage in the Ministerial Roundtable, where the transformative initiatives undertaken by the government under the insightful leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the comprehensive development and empowerment of all women and girls will be emphasized.
These initiatives will encompass areas such as health and wellbeing, education and entrepreneurship, digital and financial inclusion, enhancing women’s leadership and decision-making, and alleviating drudgery through a range of programs.
During her visit, the Union Minister will also conduct an interactive session with the Indian diaspora in honor of International Women’s Day.
The minister will participate in discussions regarding various aspects of women's and girls' empowerment, including a commitment to allocate resources and expedite the execution of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, as well as contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, stated the ministry.
The CSW serves as the principal global intergovernmental entity solely focused on advancing gender equality, advocating for the rights and empowerment of women.
A functional commission of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the upcoming session of the Commission will take place from March 10-21.
This year’s session is particularly significant, as 2025 will mark the 30th anniversary of the pivotal global guiding instrument on the empowerment of women and girls, the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which was adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995.
The session will focus on reviewing and appraising its implementation, evaluating global progress and challenges in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women, as well as fully realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Additionally, the minister will be a guest of honor at a high-level side event at the UN Headquarters attended by ministers and high-ranking officials from various nations, alongside the Commission's proceedings.
