India steps onto the global stage at the Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha as a nation that has achieved significant milestones in poverty reduction.
From 2011 to 2023, 248 million Indians have been lifted out of multidimensional poverty, bringing the proportion of individuals living below the international poverty line down to just 2.3 percent in 2022-23.
This progress is supported by flagship programs such as Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, PM Awas Yojana, and the Jan Dhan financial inclusion initiative.
Additionally, India’s rapid expansion of its social protection system has positioned it among the largest globally.
As reported by the International Labour Organization (ILO), India’s social security coverage has increased from 19 percent in 2015 to 64.3 percent in 2025, benefiting over 940 million citizens.
This achievement has been facilitated through the JAM Trinity (Jan Dhan–Aadhaar–Mobile) framework, which ensures efficient, transparent, and direct benefit delivery to millions of households.
Furthermore, Dr Mandaviya is set to participate in the ILO-sponsored Ministerial Event on the Global Coalition for Social Justice, where he will reiterate India’s commitment to equitable growth and decent work.
On the sidelines of the Summit, the Union Minister will engage in a series of bilateral discussions with Ministers from Qatar, Romania, Mauritius, and the European Union, along with meetings with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and senior UN officials. These discussions aim to strengthen cooperation on labor mobility, skills development, social protection, and job creation.
