Seoul, April 30 (NationPress) South Korea and the United States are set to engage in working-level discussions this week to outline the specifics of their recent agreement regarding the tariff policies of the Donald Trump administration, as announced by the industry ministry in Seoul on Wednesday.
The two-day "technical discussions" are scheduled to commence on Wednesday (U.S. time) in Washington, following last week's agreement aimed at creating a comprehensive deal on the new U.S. tariffs and avenues for enhancing bilateral economic and industrial cooperation before the 90-day suspension on tariff measures concludes on July 8, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Officials from the ministry and the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) will participate in the forthcoming discussions, as reported by Yonhap news agency.
"The objective of this round of technical consultations is to finalize the framework for discussions concerning U.S. tariff measures. We aim to actively pursue exemptions from reciprocal tariffs, specific tariffs on items such as automobiles and steel products, and any new duties that may be implemented in the future, to mitigate impacts on our businesses," stated senior ministry official Jang Sung-gil.
During the initial "two-plus-two" tariff discussions held last Thursday, Seoul and Washington agreed to concentrate on four key areas while formulating a deal: tariff and non-tariff measures, economic security, investment cooperation, and currency policies.
