Praggnanandha, Vaishali R, and Kuneru Humpy, is part of the 15 Indian chess players (11 men and 4 women) who have secured their spots for the 2025 FIDE Grand Swiss and Women’s Grand Swiss, scheduled to be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from September 3 to 16.

The FIDE Grand Swiss stands as one of the premier events in the chess world, providing players a direct route to the Candidates Tournament. The top two finishers from the Grand Swiss will earn their entry into the 2026 Candidates Tournament, while the leading two players in the Women’s Grand Swiss will qualify for the 2026 Women’s Candidates Tournament.

Beyond its qualification significance, the event is also notable for its increased prize pool. The Open prize fund has been elevated from USD 460,000 to USD 625,000, marking a 36 percent rise.
