4th Test: Boland Optimistic About Australia's Winning Prospects at MCG

Melbourne, Dec 28 (NationPress) Australia seamer Scott Boland stated that he remains confident in the hosts' advantageous position to clinch victory in the Boxing Day Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

On Day 3, Australia secured four wickets on a rain-affected day, with Nitish Kumar Reddy scoring his maiden Test century, remaining unbeaten on 105 at stumps. With two days left in the match, Australia holds a lead of 116 runs, and a win would grant the hosts a 2-1 series advantage.

"We are ahead by 115 (116) runs, placing us in a fairly strong position. While it could have been better, that's the nature of Test match cricket; it has its ups and downs. Hopefully, we can capture that first wicket tomorrow morning, extend our lead, and see how the game unfolds from there," Boland conveyed during the post-day press conference.

Boland, who claimed 3-57 from 27 overs, expressed his support for fellow fast bowler Mitchell Starc to recover fully to bowl for the remainder of the match, following an injury concern in his back. Starc appeared uncomfortable at times and ended Day 3 without a wicket, having conceded 86 runs from 25 overs.

"He’s alright. He just had a minor issue in his back or rib, not sure where exactly, but he returned after the break and was bowling at 140km/h, so I believe he’ll be okay," Boland remarked.

"He is often underrated for his toughness. A couple of years ago here at the MCG, he played with a broken finger and we weren’t expecting him to bowl at all, yet he came out and bowled 140km/h swingers."

"He’s someone who can endure a significant amount of pain, which is evident from the fact that he’s played nearly 90 Test matches now (93). As a fast bowler, it’s rare to compete without any discomfort. He can maintain his pace even when feeling unwell, which is an admirable attribute to possess."

Boland has more experience at the MCG than any other player in the Australian team, as the historic venue is his home ground. When asked if spin could become more relevant on Day 5, Boland replied, "I'm uncertain if it will spin significantly more."

"There’s a considerable amount of grass on the pitch, so I’m certainly hoping for more spin. Ideally, there’ll be some variable bounce as the Test match wickets wear out, which would be beneficial for our bowling unit."
