Australia's Head Coach McDonald Praises Squad's Fast Bowlers

Sydney, Jan 4 (NationPress) Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald stated he was not taken aback by pacer Scott Boland’s remarkable eight-wicket haul during the ongoing fifth Test against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday. This match marks Boland's third Test in the five-match series, where he recorded impressive figures of 4-42 after achieving 4-31 in India’s first innings. His stellar performance played a crucial role in reducing India to 141/6 at stumps on Day 2.
“We’re not surprised by Scotty’s performances. Every time he plays, he does the job well. His ability to be relentless on a length and to move the ball in both directions has proven challenging, particularly on this (SCG) pitch,” McDonald commented. “He’s always a serious consideration, and every time he takes the field for Australia, he delivers. We are fortunate to have those four quicks: Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Stark, and Boland.”
The head coach commended Boland’s tactical execution, especially against Virat Kohli, as he dismissed him for the fourth time in this series. “It’s one thing to have a plan; executing it effectively, especially against Virat, to keep him under immense pressure is another.”
“He’s tried various tactics, including stepping out of his crease, but Scotty Boland’s relentless approach in this matchup has made it incredibly difficult for him to recover, but he’s never an easy wicket,” McDonald added.
With the pitch playing a significant role in the series finale, McDonald acknowledges the challenges ahead, despite a low-scoring chase expected on Sunday. “Low-scoring matches elevate the pressure, so there’s still a long way to go. We will see how it unfolds. The loss of quick wickets reflects the current state of Test cricket.”
“Both bowling attacks showcase some generational talent we are witnessing. We aren’t surprised by how new batters face vulnerability, a trend we have observed throughout the series.”
“However, if a partnership can be established, then it shows runs can be scored on these surfaces,” he added.
As it stands, India leads by 145 runs, with Ravindra Jadeja (eight not out) and Washington Sundar (six not out) expected to forge a strong partnership to extend the lead on Day 3. India will resume their innings from 141/6.
