Puri, March 19 (NationPress) The 57th Senior National Kho Kho Championship is scheduled to occur from March 31 to April 5 at the District Sports Complex, organized by the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI).
The championship will host a total of 74 teams, including participants from 30 states and prominent institutional teams like Airport Authority, Railways, BSF, Maharashtra Police, and CISF.
Sudhanshu Mittal, the president of the Kho Kho Federation of India, emphasized the federation's ambition to elevate Kho Kho to a global stage. He remarked, “Our vision transcends national borders; we are committed to transforming Kho Kho into an international sport. The forthcoming championship in Puri exemplifies our continuous efforts to modernize the game and display its vibrant appeal.”
Odisha has been progressively enhancing the promotion of Kho Kho. A Kho Kho Academy and High-Performance Center have been functioning in Puri for the last ten months, offering specialized training to budding players. Moreover, a proposal for the construction of a dedicated Kho Kho stadium at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar is pending final approval.
Pradyumna Mishra, the general secretary of the Odisha Kho Kho Association, stated, “We are thrilled to host the 57th Senior National Kho Kho Championship in Puri, a city with an evolving sporting culture. This event will spotlight elite talent and further enhance the popularity of Kho Kho in India.”
With the championship set to unite the finest Kho Kho talent in the nation, the event is anticipated to be a significant milestone in advancing the sport in Odisha and beyond.
Previously, India hosted the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup, where the national teams claimed the first titles in both men’s and women’s categories at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on January 19.
