Bengaluru, Dec 31 (NationPress) The 44th Junior National Kho Kho Championship has officially commenced at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Gunjur, Bengaluru, bringing together top young talents from various affiliated states and organizations.

The opening day featured a thrilling display of approximately 40 matches in both girls’ and boys’ categories. This Championship follows a League-cum-knockout format, with the semifinals and finals scheduled for January 3 and 4, respectively.

Nearly 1000 athletes are competing in the Junior Nationals, supported by 180 staff members and 100 technical officials to ensure the event runs smoothly. The inauguration was attended by former Minister H. Nagesh, who served as the chief guest, along with officials from the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI) and the Karnataka State Kho Kho Association (KSKKA).

“Teams from various states and UTs have gathered here, creating a microcosm of India. This event offers a unique opportunity for these young athletes to connect and learn from one another,” stated Sudhanshu Mittal, President of KKFI.

“Our goal is to nurture these young talents by providing them with top-notch training and facilities,” said Lokeshwara, President of KSKKA.

“The Junior Nationals serve as a vital platform for identifying and promoting young talent. This sport has become increasingly appealing for youth aiming for a career in Kho Kho, offering them opportunities and recognition akin to other modern sports,” remarked Upkar Singh Virk, General Secretary of KKFI.

Dr. M.S. Tyagi, Chairman of Organisation & Administration at KKFI, expressed, “It is inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and energy of the young generation embracing this sport. The Junior National Championship is crucial for these athletes to showcase their skills and advance their careers.”

The 58th Senior National Kho Kho Championship (Men & Women) is set to take place from January 11-15, 2026, in Kazipet, Telangana, while the 35th Sub-Junior National Kho Kho Championship (Boys & Girls) will occur in Kurukshetra, Haryana, from January 31, 2026, to February 4, 2026.
